Dylan’s story:

I am currently a First Officer at Envoy Air, a wholly owned subsidiary of American Airlines. My aviation career started at Tennessee Flight Training in 2018. I was 18 years old and looking for a program that would help me reach my aspirations and dreams.

From day one, the instructors were knowledgeable, supportive, and genuinely invested in my success. The school was well-structured, blending ground school with practical flying lessons seamlessly. The aircraft were well-maintained, and the facilities were top-notch, making each flight enjoyable and safe. I appreciated the personalized attention I received, which helped me build confidence and improve my skills quickly. Overall, Tennessee Flight Training provided an exceptional learning environment that prepared me thoroughly for my professional flying career.

One of the best aspects of Tennessee Flight Training, to me, is the flexibility. I could fly as much as I needed, or as little as I wanted. I could build the training schedule to my liking. I was able to work full-time, and balance flight training at the same time. Many flight programs do not offer this.

Most importantly, the costs were much lower than the national average, and I was able to complete all my training debt-free!

Once I obtained all my required certificates and ratings, Tennessee Flight Training hired me as a Certified Flight Instructor. I used my knowledge and professionalism to help students reach their flying goals. While I was doing this, I was obtaining the hours required to become an airline pilot. I took flight instructing to heart, as many students of mine had the same dream as I did.

Once I hit the magic number of hours in my logbook, I spent weeks and months preparing for airline interviews. The hard work paid off, and I was very fortunate to have offers from multiple airlines. I made the transition from full-time flight instructor to airline pilot. I had officially reached my dream.

Quite often, I get asked how to be successful in flight training. Here is what I recommend:

1. Stay Committed: Consistency is crucial. Regular lessons help reinforce skills and build confidence.
2. Study Ground School: Don’t underestimate the importance of ground school. Understanding the theory behind flying is essential for practical application.
3. Ask Questions: Don’t hesitate to ask your instructor for clarification. They’re there to help you learn.
4. Practice Before Flights: Review maneuvers and procedures before each lesson to maximize your time in the air.
5. Stay Healthy: Ensure you’re physically and mentally fit for flying. Fatigue can significantly impact performance.
6. Embrace Mistakes: Mistakes are part of the learning process. Use them as opportunities for growth.
7. Keep a Positive Attitude: Stay motivated and maintain a positive mindset, even when faced with challenges.
8. Network with Other Students: Connect with fellow students for support, tips, and camaraderie.
9. Log Your Progress: Keep detailed notes of your lessons and progress to track your improvement and areas needing focus.
10. Enjoy the Journey: Remember to appreciate the experience and the joy of flying. It’s a unique and rewarding path.

Thanks for taking the time to read my journey. Flying is more attainable than you think. Let your dream become a reality. See you in the skies!
